What is Alpha-lipoic Acid?

What is Alpha-lipoic Acid?

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a powerful antioxidant that can be added to your IV infusion at Be Whole Wellness Center to boost your cellular health.  A boost of alpha-lipoic acid can give your body the nutrients it needs to stay well, stay healthy, and protect your body’s organs at the cellular level.  Our bodies naturally make ALA but only in small amounts and if you want to increase your body’s natural levels of ALA, IV therapy is a great way to achieve this goal.

This powerful antioxidant works with the mitochondria which is the battery or powerhouse of your cells in the body. The mitochondria aid in boosting the metabolism, preventing inflammation, eliminating toxins, and reversing some of the free radical damage correlated with aging. Increased doses of ALA initiate mitochondrial respiration which has been shown to have an anti-cancer effect. Not only does it work to remove unwanted toxins, but it also improves nerve pain symptoms and reduces oxidation from free radicals.

Just a few of the benefits of an alpha-lipoic acid IV may include:

  • Improve insulin sensitivity and blood sugar control
  • Improvement of symptoms associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy
  • Weight loss
  • Reverse oxidant damage linked with aging
  • Elimination of unwanted toxins such as heavy metals (mercury, arsenic, and cadmium)
  • Restoration of other antioxidant levels
  • Slow the damage to the cell due to free radicals
  • Improve vision health
  • Boost liver health
  • Slow or stop the growth of cancer cells

Because it helps with the oxidative stress that damages optical nerves, ALA has been shown to be helpful with macular degeneration, retinal damage, cataracts, loss of vision, and glaucoma. It has been studied in helping to treat cancer and has been shown to decrease production of the cancer cells in the breast, ovarian, lung, colon, and rectum. Additionally, there is research showing that it slows the progression of thyroid and pancreatic cancers, plus increased the effectiveness of chemotherapy. ALA is being studied in patients with memory loss, decreased cognitive function, motor impairment, and multiple sclerosis because it can cross the blood-brain barrier and protect the brain cells mitochondria.

Common Results of ALA IV Therapy

ALA is completely natural and is made normally by the body, the treatment is safe with only rare side effects such as mild low blood sugar, nausea, rash, or itching. The intravenous route allows you to receive a much higher dose of ALA, which goes directly into your body and is used instantly.

Depending on your personal health history as to the reason why you choose to get the IV therapy, results can vary. For example, ALA can take 3 to 5 weeks for diabetics to normally notice the reduction nerve pain symptoms.
